History Day Homework WEEK TEN February 25- March 1
We are in the final week of our history day work! Congratulations on your hard work. Most students finished their process papers and bibliographies last week and are all set for history day. Intern Jake or I will give a final once over of websites being entered in the contest this week. The need to be complete by Wednesday. Our History Day in class fair will be next Tuesday and Wednesday. We will share a few projects each day.
History Day Homework WEEK NINE February 18-22
History Day projects will now be finished at home. You will have extra study time in school to be completing your homework so you should have time at night to work on your board, performance, website or documentary. We will write your process paper and finalize your bibliography in school. Keep in mind the websites are due on February 27. All other projects are due on March 4. I will proofread anything that you ask for help with. Aubree will continue to be here to help you as well.
History Day Homework WEEK EIGHT February 11-15
This week we will have some time in the computer lab each day to work on your history day project. You can be creating your website, finalizing your bibliographies, typing your work for your boards OR working on your scripts. This will be the final week for school time except for the process paper writing. Use your time well in school!
History Day Homework WEEK SEVEN
This is interim week, but hopefully you have been hard at work on your project each night. A reminder that except for those doing scripts, you should have most of your writing due on Monday. There is NO consequence for those of you not finishing your writing this week. However, projects are due in three weeks and you need to have the time at home to finish up your project.
History Day Homework WEEK SIX
This week we will be working very hard on our history day project in school. After an introduction on Monday, you will be writing your history day project each day during social studies class. If you are completing a documentary, an exhibit board, or a website the writing part of your project is due on MONDAY, FEBRUARY 11, 2013. If you are completing a performance, you have until February 18th, to finish your script. Project due dates are all posted on the calendar. ( Websites are due a few days before our in class history fair because the entries need to be at the MHS by March 5.)
Remember that during our Interim week you will not have any other class homework. It will be a great time to finish up the writing of your project.
PLEASE READ YOUR PROJECT RUBRIC CAREFULLY SOMETIME THIS WEEK. They are posted on the History Day handouts page. Also, you may want to reread your guidelines for completing your project. They are located on this page.

History Day Homework WEEK FIVE
No specific guidelines will be given this week for nightly work. The students will have more study time then usual in school to be working on their daily homework keeping their nights free for working on finishing up those note cards. Note cards are due on Monday, January 28, 2013. See rubric for guidelines for grading.
In school this week the history intern (if she is feeling better) will work one on one with kids to make sure their bibliography is going in the right direction, she will work with website students to get their sites going and brainstorm page names for their site, she will work with exhibit, performance and documentary students to also make a skeleton plan.
Looking ahead...The following week the emphasis will totally switch. Students will be doing the writing for their projects in school so I can closely watch their writing and give feedback for each section they complete immediately. This work will all be completed in school.

You will continue to read and gather notes on your topic this week. Also, we are going to the Historical Society Library on Wednesday and you will be getting more materials then. You have a two week deadline. Your NOTES are due on Monday, January 28, 2013. History Day Homework WEEK TWO
This is a short week, but there are still a few things that you need to do. It shouldn't take more than 15 minutes a night.
Monday, Dec. 17, 2012
Tonight you should find out exactly what you must to do complete your project. Follow this link to the projects page on our website. You will find a link to the directions for completing your project. They are lengthy but you should read them all. That way you will know what you need to know to complete your project. In class we worked on completing the History Day Handout due after our break. Some of you went to the Stearns History Museum to start learning more about your topic.
Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012
Tonight you should look at some sample projects. Those of you completing websites received a sheet in your packet on the websites which advanced to the state competition last year. Look at these websites to see how they are put together and what kinds of information they include. Read at least two websites completely. Pick two websites that you find interesting. If you are doing a performance, watch a solo performance on this page.
If you are doing a documentary, they are found on the page as well. I've included a link to an exhibit on this page.

History Day Homework WEEK ONE
History Day Homework Page
This is our new page for helping you know what to do each day for History Day. For the weeks before Christmas and the first three weeks in January we will be doing writing activities in Language Arts. This is to allow you time to work on your History Project at home each day. You will be doing a lot of reading with your project so I want to make sure you have time. Less language arts homework means more time for History Day reading and note taking. The red tells your what we learned in class today.
Monday, Dec. 10, 2012
Today in class you learned about how to start your research with the internet. Tonight's the concert so you shouldn't do any work on your history day project tonight. Our intern finished doing her web's with you.
Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012
You should spend 15-20 minutes doing some "google" research tonight. This may include just reading the Wikipedia article about your topic. You won't use this as a source, but it will give you some general background information. Remember to look under your Wikipedia article to look for some possible good sources to use. You should try to add some research questions to your assignment due Friday. Research Question assignment given.
Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012
Maybe tonight's the night to see what the Great River Regional Library has about your topic. Try several searches. Maybe use you library card to put some books on reserve. You need to start reading in order to have an idea of where to go with your project. Keep working on those research questions. Remember 15-20 minutes nightly!
Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012
If you haven't done the assignments above, well tonight is the night to get to them. If you have done them, maybe start reading those books or do some more reading on the web. If you find good websites, please bookmark them on your computer. You want to find them again. If your questions aren't finished, you may want to ask your parents to help your brainstorm. Research questions are due on Friday.
